Prospect sold to Lomond
Prospect, a leading independent lettings and estate agency operating across Berkshire, Surrey and Hampshire, has been acquired by Lomond, the UK’s leading network of lettings and sales agents. Initium Corporate Finance advised the shareholders of Prospect throughout the transaction.
Founded in 1990 by Directors Colin Wells and James May, and headquartered in Reading, Prospect has built an outstanding reputation for exceptional client service, a people-first culture and industry-leading standards. From a single branch in Bracknell, Berkshire, the business has grown to 10 branches, employing over 100 staff, and managing more than 3,500 properties across the Thames Valley region.
“From the first conversations with Initium, it was clear we were in expert hands. Throughout the process we felt supported, informed and empowered to make the right decisions” – Colin Wells, Founder, Prospect
A key factor in Prospect’s success has been its longstanding commitment to staff development. Many team members have enjoyed decades-long careers with the business – including Managing Director Mark Towell, who began as a trainee in 2000. This shared emphasis on nurturing talent and maintaining a customer-focused ethos makes Prospect a natural fit within Lomond’s 12 other premium Estate Agency brands.
A values-led business, Prospect is committed to supporting local communities; the business has a long-term partnership with the charity Wokingham in Need, alongside fundraising and volunteering for schools, local football clubs, community events and other organisations in the Home Counties.
Lomond is the UK’s leading network of lettings and sales agents with over 2,600 employees, 72,000 properties under management, and 200 branches across the UK including Scotland, Yorkshire, the North West, the Midlands, London, Kent and the South Coast. The acquisition of Prospect marks another milestone in Lomond’s strategic growth journey, expanding its footprint in the Home Counties and Thames Valley with another market-leading hub brand.
With the backing and resources of Lomond, Prospect is poised to accelerate its growth while staying true to the values that have defined it for more than three decades.
About the transaction
Rob Mott, Chief Revenue Officer at Lomond, said: “Prospect’s strong brand heritage, loyal customer base and exceptional people perfectly align with Lomond’s core values. I’ve admired Prospect for some time, and this partnership presents an exciting opportunity to deepen our presence around London and the South East. I’m delighted to welcome Prospect’s talented team and valued clients to Lomond.”
Colin Wells, Founder and CEO of Prospect, commented: “Prospect was founded on principles that remain at the heart of our business 35 years later – integrity, excellence and putting people first. When considering a partner for the next stage of our journey, alignment in values was paramount. Lomond shares that ethos completely, and I’m confident this partnership will enable Prospect to thrive while preserving what makes us unique.”
Commenting on Initium’s role in the transaction, Colin Wells said: “Navigating the sale of a business you’ve poured so much of yourself into is both rewarding and challenging. From the first conversations with Initium, it was clear we were in expert hands. Their guidance was consistently proactive – from shaping the strategic approach to handling complex technical points, providing clarity on valuation, and steering negotiations with confidence. Throughout the process we felt supported, informed and empowered to make the right decisions. Initium’s deep expertise, responsiveness and commitment ensured a smooth transaction.”
Ed Phillips, Group Chief Executive of Lomond, added: “We’ve been looking to identify the right business in this region for some time, knowing how strategically important the area is to our continued expansion. Prospect is a standout fit – a business with deep local roots, an exceptional reputation and a culture that reflects our own commitment to people, service and performance. Their addition as a new hub for Lomond establishes our presence in one of the UK’s most dynamic markets, and we’re excited to support Prospect’s next chapter while building on the strong foundations that Colin and his team have created.”
Alongside corporate finance advice from Initium, the shareholders of Prospect received legal advice from Clifton Ingram.
