Flowmaster Group sold to Mentor Graphics

The NASDAQ-listed Mentor Graphics Corporation – a US-based specialist in Electronic Design Automation (EDA) – has acquired the Flowmaster Group, a global leader in 1D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation software for system design. The shareholders of Flowmaster Group were advised by Initium throughout the transaction.

The Flowmaster Group was a Dutch owned, UK-based international organisation, specialising in the provision of thermo-fluid systems simulation software to the aerospace, automotive, marine, oil and gas, power generation, process, rail and water industries. This acquisition consolidated the position of Mentor Graphics as the first EDA company to move into the adjacent Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) mechanical analysis space.

Flowmaster software is used by engineering professionals to improve complex internal fluid systems from conceptual idea to finalized design. 1D CFD solutions allow for very rapid engineering design of complex fluid flow network systems like water-cooled electronic racks, automotive vehicle thermal management, and aerospace fuel systems.

Established in 1981, the Mentor Graphics Corporation was a world leader in electronic hardware and software design solutions, providing products, consulting services and  support for the world’s most successful electronic, semiconductor and systems companies. Mentor Graphics was acquired by Siemens in 2017, and in 2021, the business was rebranded as Siemens EDA, a segment of Siemens Digital Industries Software.
